资源简介:
This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of irritable bowel syndrome before and during the menstrual cycle among college going students. Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common functional gastrointestinal disorder, is characterized by abdominal pain, discomfort, and erratic bowel habits without evidence of organic disease. It affects individuals of all ages and genders, but it is more prevalent in women. Women with bowel disorder often more severe symptoms during their menstrual cycle. The exact cause of IBS is multifactorial and likely involves a combination of genetic, environmental, and psychosocial factors. An online survey study was carried out among college going students. Data was collected through self made questionnaire on college going students. Total 185 students participated in this study. Among the participants, 153 (82.7%) reported being familiar with IBS and their symptoms, while 32 (17.3%) were unaware of this condition. Participants were questioned about their IBS symptoms before and during their menstrual cycle. Significant number of participants experience symptoms of IBS before and during their menstrual cycle. This indicated a noteworthy prevalence of menstrual cycle related exacerbation of IBS symptoms among college going students.
