Funerary stele with a chariot

This stele may have been in Padua, in the Bassani house, since 1500. The depicted scene shows a chariot in a race, driven by a pair of horses. Above the chariot there are two characters: the charioteer, who incites the horses with a whip, and a woman wearing a veil. There is a round shield under the horses' legs and there are remains of a Venetian inscription on the top. The Latin inscription on the bottom was most likely added later.
