Haplotype-resolved chromosome-level genomes of Megaleporinus macrocephalus and Leporinus friderici (Teleostei, Characoidei) obtained via trio binning of an interspecific hybrid

Here, we present phased chromosome-level genome assemblies for two economically and evolutionarily relevant anostomid fishes, Megaleporinus macrocephalus and Leporinus friderici. To overcome challenges associated with assembling heteromorphic sex chromosomes, we generated an interspecific F1 hybrid (M. macrocephalus x L. friderici) and applied a trio-binning strategy integrating PacBio HiFi long reads, Illumina short reads from both parental species, and Hi-C data.
