This study shows that depletion of hnRNPM results in global cryptic splicing. hnRNPM-repressed cryptic exons are enriched in LINE elements and can generate long stem-like double stranded RNAs (dsRNAs), which in turn stimulate antiviral signaling, elevate tumor immune infiltration, and improve cancer patient survival.
