This study evaluates the clinical and manometric accuracy of a recalibrated version of the IOPVet indentation tonometer for measuring intraocular pressure (IOP) in dogs. The device's performance was compared to a recalibrated TonoVet Plus (rTVP) and validated using an in situ manometric technique on post-mortem eyes. A total of 97 eyes were studied across three cohorts: glaucomatous dogs, healthy controls, and euthanized dogs for manometry. IOPVet readings were categorized into four pressure intervals and compared to reference values to assess sensitivity and specificity. The recalibrated IOPVet achieved 100% sensitivity for detecting IOP ≥30 mmHg and 84.8% specificity for normotensive eyes. Manometric validation showed high accuracy across all pressure ranges with no false negatives above the diagnostic threshold. The device, based on a color-coded, semi-quantitative scale, offers a cost-effective, user-friendly solution for glaucoma screening and remote monitoring, with potential applications in both clinical and home-based settings. Results support its integration into general practice and encourage further investigations in other species.
