Working Conditions of Local Politicians, 1970-1974

The main purpose of the survey was to map out the conditions of representative municipal (local) democracy. #Subjectively, these conditions have been examined through questions concerning local politicians' influence on municipal policies, and, more objectively, the conditions have been examined through questions concerning the politicians' resource basis of influence. #Thus, the survey deals with: # 1) local politicians' attitudes to the Local Government Reform Act, # 2) local politicians' attitudes to municipal self-government, # 3) local politicians' impression of their influence on municipal policies, # 4) local politicians' media exposure, # 5) local politicians' attitudes to various measures taken to further participant democracy, # 6) demographic and socio-economic background variables, # 7) political affiliation and career, # 8) the work load of local politicians, # 9) financial consequences of being a local politician, #10) local politicians' attitudes to local political work in general, #11) local politicians' opinions of their role in representative, local government, #12) attitudes to the questionnaire, its relevance and its dimensions
