This dataset consists of raw recordings for 5 Tandem gas metal arc welding experiments (Tandem-GMAW / T-GMAW). Experiment identifiers and welding sequence A detailed overview of all welding experiments is given in the file experiment_list.csv . Each of the workpieces has a numeric identifier (Workpiece ID - WID). These are: WID615, WID617, WID630, WID631 and WID632.Each workpiece was welded using 6 single-bead-per-layer welds applying a weaving strategy. The layers are indicated numerically as L1 to L6.The root pass (L1) is welded using a single wire only and included for the sake of compelteness. Layer L2 to L6 are tandem welds. The included Python notebook data_view_example.ipynb demonstrates data access and some data transformations. Data contents The dataset consists of one zip file per layer and experiment, each containing: a NetCDF/HDF5 file containing robot movement and metadata recordings: WID*_L*_robot.nc a NetCDF/HDF5 file containing welding voltage and current measurements: WID*_L*_process.nc one (for the root pass) or two (for tandem welds) NetCDF/HDF5 files containing power source settings and recordings for the leading and trailing wire: WID*_L*_power_source_*.nc a NetCDF/HDF5 file containing a 3D surface scan before each weld pass: WID*_L*_scan_pre.nc The final layer L6 also includes a post weld surface scan: WID*_L*_scan_post.nc a HDR video recording of the process: WID*_L*_video.avi the video recordings are given for the sake of completeness but may vary in recording settings and camera arrangement Experimental Setup Materials Base material grade: S355J2+N Welding wire grade: ER70S-6 Workpiece description Each workpiece is prepared with 30 mm thickness and a groove opening angle of approximately 50 degrees (flame cut).Each workpiece has a minimum weld seam length of 300 mm. Welding power sources & process modes Fronius TWIN system for Tandem GMAW with two synchronized TPS 500i arc welding power sources.Both power sources support the advanced Pulse Multi Control (PMC) pulsed and Cold Metal Transfer (CMT) retractable wire short circuiting welding process modes.
