Tonsillar microbiota contributes to the distinction of chronic tonsillitis and tonsillar hypertrophy patients

There are bacteria in saliva and on surface of tonsils, but less is known about microflora on the depth pf tonsils. Patients with chronic or recurrent tonsillitis receives multiple courses of antibiotics and this may change the microbiota of tonsillar tissue and could contribute to the negative symptoms. In the present study, a total of 22 removed tonsils (both left and right side) were removed and collected from 5 CT and 6 TH patients. The surface and core tonsillar microbiota difference between 2 different kinds of patients were compared.
