This document is a patient handout outlining post-operative wound care instructions, written at a fifth-grade reading level across multiple readability indices. In alignment with National Institutes of Health recommendations that patient education materials be written at or below a sixth-grade level, this handout illustrates that simplification is achievable without loss of clinical accuracy.
