Global Gridded Historical Annual Land Use CO2 Emissions, 1850-2005

This data set contains global gridded CO2 emissions associated with historical land use changes and wood harvest (1850-2005). The data were compiled for use in forcing historical runs of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project, Phase 5 (CMIP5) Earth Systems Models (ESMs). The CO2 emissions from land use and wood harvest were weighted by population density cut at 20persons/km2 and provide: (1) carbon emissions (annual maps of anthropogenic carbon emissions due to land use change (including wood harvest); (2) population (annual maps of population density); (3) land-sea-mask (map indicating whether a grid cell is regarded as land (value 1) or ocean (value 0); and (4) area (map indicating the area ascribed to each grid cell for the weighting of the carbon emissions with the population density). All maps have the same regular grid with a resolution of 0.5 degree in netCDF format.
