Marine sponges are main producers of novel bioactive compounds, with potential as anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer drugs. During the last decades, Indonesian sponges were among the most prolific sources of new bioactive compounds in the world. Thus, the present study aims to investigate their anti-microbial activity and to explore their microbial community, as in many cases, bioactive compounds have been shown to be at least in part be produced by the microbial fraction of the sponge holobiont.
