We propose a 200ks XMMNewton observation of the Galactic supernova remnant(SNR) W49B. The aims of this program include localization of the recombiningplasma recently discovered in W49B with Suzaku and exploration of the dramaticspectral evolution of the SNR observed with Chandra. Only XMMNewton has thesensitivity at hard energies and spatial resolution necessary to achieve thesescience goals.
