A comparison of three models.

The figure shows forward and lateral swimming speeds, and , respectively, normalized by the wavespeed . The solid line represents the nonlinear model of [28], circles represent the nonlinear resistive chain-link PM model, and the dashed line represents the leading-order resistive chain-link PM model. The length of the body is taken to be 1 cm and it has a constant cross sectional radius of 0.05 cm. The frequency of the wave passing through the body is taken to be 20 Hz which gives a wavespeed, , of 20 cm/s. Leading-order drag forces were used in all the three models.
