The aim of this study was to test the periodontal microbial community composition among older adults (65 years and older) living in long-term care facilities. The study population was recruited from September 2017 to January 2019 and comprised 174 dentate participants living in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Subgingival bacterial communities were characterized by 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing (V3-V4 region) using the Illumina MiSeq platform.
