Rhinogobio ventralis genome and annotation

The endangered fish Rhinogobio ventralis is endemic to the upper Yangtze River, China. Here, we generated a high-quality chromosome-level genome assembly of R. ventralis using PacBio and Hi-C techniques. The PacBio sequencing technology resulted in an assembly of 1039.34 Mb, with a Contig N50 size of 18.1 Mb, and containing 659.3 Mb of repeats. Hi-C data was utilized for chromosome assembly and 25 chromosome sequences were ultimately yielded. A total of 23,246 protein-coding genes were predicted with an average intron length of 2109.5 bp. Evolutionary analysis revealed that R. ventralis was closely related to C. guichenoti and they phylogenetically diverged from common ancestor ~23.5 million years ago (Mya). Comparative genomics analysis revealed 245 expended gene families in R. ventralis. Furthermore, positively selected genes identified in R. ventralis primarilyfunction in DNA replicationand repair mechanisms. This genome will serve as a valuable resource for the future study of genomics, biology and adaptive evolution in R. ventralis.
