Objectives: To study the effects of a NIR light/ICG applicator for photodynamic therapy in the inhibition of dental plaque. Early assessment of effects.Methodology: Prospectively randomized, split-mouth protocol. Comparing the development of plaque in treated and untreated teeth, assessment of plaque microbiological changes and effect on periodontitis biomarker MMP-8.Enrolment and duration: 15 healthy volunteers, 4 daysAssessments: The amount of plaque measured as an area on dental surface. The percentage of plaque area of the selected dental surface area. Comparing the change in the plaque area after the treatment period in treated and untreated teeth. Measuring the amount of pre- and post MMP-8 in gingival crevicular fluid, and analyzing pre and post 16S bacteriological ecology.
