Genome sequencing of toxigenic black mold Stachybotrys

Stachybotrys is a mold often found in buildings. It produces several products that may contribute to human illness by multiple mechanisms. The most toxic products are the macrocyclic trichothecenes (MTs), which are only produced by some strains. The goal of this study is to determine the genetic bases for strain-specific differences in macrocyclic trichothecene production by analyzing the genomes of two Stachybotrys strains that produce MTs (IBT 40293 and IBT 7711) and two strains that do not (IBT 40285 and IBT 40288).
