Jihadi terrorist dataset 2001-2016

The data set included all cases of known jihadist terrorist activity in America after September 11, 2001, through 2016, consisting of 246 individuals who attempted to carry out terrorist plots. The dataset used in this analysis originates from New America’s <i>Terrorism in America After 9/11 </i>project (New America, 2017), which tracks and analyses terrorism cases involving individuals within the United States since 2001. This dataset provides detailed information on various demographic factors and affiliations. New America’s terrorism dataset is compiled from FBI reports and journalistic reporting on terrorist activity. This database provides researchers with open access to comprehensive information on terrorist cases in the United States. The original data included cases of right-wing and left-wing ideological terrorism, in addition to jihadist terrorism. As there were very few cases of left- or right-wing terrorism, the data was filtered down to jihadist cases for a more homogeneous sample. The data was also filtered down to only those individuals with developed attack plans. In all cases, the individual was either convicted, pleaded guilty, or the case was closed due to the suspect’s confirmed death. Individuals who were not formally charged with terrorism offenses due to lack of evidence were excluded from the analysis.<br>
