Discovery and characterization of a novel bat coronavirus sheds light on the origin of emerging infectious diseases

We discovered a novel coronavirus in lung tissue of bats (Hipposideros armiger) collected from Yunnan province in 2017. The full-length genome of this virus was determined. Totally, seven lung tissue samples were included in this study. Total nucleic acid was extracted from lung tissue samples using QIAamp Viral RNA Mini Kit according to manufacturer's protocol and pooled into a nucleic acid sample pool. The library was then constructed using Nextera XT DNA Sample Preparation Kit (Illumina) and sequenced using the Illumina MiSeq with 250 base paired-ends with dual barcoding. For bioinformatics analysis, the generated 250 bp paired-end reads were debarcoded using vendor software from Illumina.
