Sydney Non Objective is based on a critical appraisal of contemporary Australian art and how it relates to a broader international spectrum. The selected projects in this gallery generally reflect a wide variety of approaches to the plastic arts, new media, or any form that may provide a deepening of the contemporary investigation into non-objective, concrete, and abstract art in general. It has connections to international galleries in NY (Minus Space) and Germany.

An exhibition in which six selected artists, were invited by the curator Craig Easton to exhibit a work relating to the idea of 'strange frame' at SNO. "The Curator Craig Easton in the statement for the exhibition" This title Strange Frame came about as an accident, a Chinese whisper of a thing caught between one idea about framing, the other to do with defining a strange kind of geometry. In the end this accident felt well timed, as this grouping of artists takes as a starting point much that is framed by non-objective, reductive or concrete positions such that at one end of the spectrum there is an adherence to the object, processes of making, material conditions, and how that object might operate in time and space. While at the other end of things, 'non-objective' is also taken here as a frame for the subjective other, the messy sometimes strange side of abstraction capable of including but also breaking with concrete contingencies. The quotidian world with its endless frames of reference comes with this and most of the more formal and geometric elements in this show are either generated by, or bent out of shape in this intersection. "All artists deal with non-objective abstraction." Robin Kingston works directly on the wall, responding to the architectural situation with a kind of fluid geometry that brings an idiosyncratic hand to otherwise rational structures."
