Modeling the Frictional Driving of a Gyroscope Casing by a Spinning Rotor - Data

This dataset contains the raw video recordings underlying the manuscript "Modeling the Frictional Driving of a Gyroscope Casing by a Spinning Rotor" (V. Tanrıverdi, A. Erbasan). The videos capture the rotation of a commercial gyroscope's casing, driven by frictional coupling with its spinning rotor, across two experimental cases distinguished by contact surface: coated cardstock (Case 1) and a clear PVC sheet (Case 2). For each case, two camera recordings are included: a casing recording taken with an ELP Web camera at 260 fps for the full duration of the motion, and three 1000 fps recordings (3 seconds each) of the rotor taken with a Sony ZV-1 camera. Colored paper markers attached to the casing and rotor were used to track angular position via image analysis; the resulting position and velocity time series and the corresponding tracking and fitting code are available separately upon request. These recordings support the experimental results, figures, and fitted friction models presented in the associated manuscript.
