Genome Sequence of the Mucoromycotina Fungus Umbelopsis isabellina, an Effective Producer of Lipids. Umbelopsis isabellina NBRC 7884

Umbelopsis isabellina is a Mucoromycotina fungi belonging to Mucorales, which includes the genera Rhizopus, Mucor. Many of the Mucoromycotina fungi have been shown to be oleaginous, reported to accumulate more than 60% of the biomass. According to their high level of intracellular lipid accumulation from various feedstock, Mucoromycotina fungi have become important organisms to produce oil as well as oil from fossil, animal and plant origins. The genome sequence of U. isabellina NBRC 7884 was determined and annotated. Analysis of the sequence might provide insights into the properties of this fungus that make it superior for use in the production and accumulation of lipid, leading to the further development of U. isabellina for industrial applications.
