Multimodal Translation and Interaction between Blind and Sighted Persons: Art

The mutable-art subcorpus is part of the MUTABLE corpus (Multimodal Translation with the Blind), which entails video recordings of the work processes related to audio description as well as of the interaction between sighted and blind participants. The mutable-art subcorpus consists of appr. 2 h of video of authentic live audio description in art exhibitions, and the respective orthographic transcriptions. The videos have been recorded in two Finnish art museums, and the setting is live audio description for a group of visually-impaired and sighted visitors during a guided tour. In addition to the audio description and guidance, the videos entail conversation between the guide and the visitors. The material that is being audio described consist of paintings from Finnish artists. The language spoken is Finnish and the videos have been recorded in Finland in 2017. The corpus was collected in the research project MUTABLE – Multimodal Translation with the Blind, funded by Academy of Finland.
