Photographs were taken of kelp canopies and were then super imposed over baseline regional maps. Photographs were taken monthly from 1985-1989 from Monterey to Carmel Point , Monterey to Point Sur, and Monterey to Carmel highlands. Bi-monthly photographs were also taken for Monterey to Carmel highlands coastal area from 1990-1991. Maps do not differentiate between Macrocystis, Nereocystis and Cystoseira species. These photographs document extent of canopy cover and are housed in warehouse east of Monterey.
