Sequencing and comparative genomics of Ustilago trichophora NBRC100155. Ustilago trichophora

Ustilago trichophora is a smut pathogen infecting the grass Echinochloa crus-galli and other members of the genus Echinochloa. U. trichophora induces tumors in its host plant that develop mostly on the stems. The tumor-induction capacity is similar to the related corn smut fungus Ustilago maydis. The strain U. trichophora NBRC100155 was obtained from the Biological Resource Center, National Institute of Technology and Evaluation, in Tokyo, Japan. The strain is a solopathogenic diploid and thus able to induce disease without a mating partner. The genome was sequenced by PacBio.
