Al-Si coated press-hardened steel was welded using an oscillating laser wire filler and compared with conventional laser self-melt welding. The oscillating laser beam accelerates the flow of the melt pool and the introduction of the wire dilutes the Al content of the weld, both of which inhibit the formation of ferrite. Compared with conventional laser welding, oscillating laser fillet welding significantly improves the mechanical properties of the welded joint.
