Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the most common nosocomial pathogens. Emergence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) P. aeruginosa is a critical problem in medical practice. The key events in the emergence and spread of MDR P. aeruginosa remain unknown. Here, we applied whole-genome sequence (WGS) analyses to define the population structure of 145 MDR P. aeruginosa strains mainly isolated from Japan in addition to Thailand, Vietnam, and Nepal
