Tris(2-thienyl)phosphine-substituted diiron propanedithiolate complexes: Synthesis, spectroscopy, crystal structures, electrochemistry, and fungicidal activity

In this article, we report two diiron propanedithiolate complexes with monosubstituted tris(2-thienyl)phosphine. Reaction of [Fe<sub>2</sub>(CO)<sub>6</sub>{<i>μ</i>-SCH<sub>2</sub>CH<sub>2</sub>CH<sub>2</sub>S}] (<b>1</b>) or [Fe<sub>2</sub>(CO)<sub>6</sub>{<i>μ</i>-SCH<sub>2</sub>CH(CH<sub>3</sub>)S}] (<b>2</b>) with one equivalent of tris(2-thienyl)phosphine and Me<sub>3</sub>NO·2H<sub>2</sub>O as the oxidative reagent yielded complexes [Fe<sub>2</sub>(CO)<sub>5</sub>P(2-C<sub>4</sub>H<sub>3</sub>S)<sub>3</sub>{<i>μ</i>-SCH<sub>2</sub>CH<sub>2</sub>CH<sub>2</sub>S}] (<b>3</b>) and [Fe<sub>2</sub>(CO)<sub>5</sub>P(2-C<sub>4</sub>H<sub>3</sub>S)<sub>3</sub>{<i>μ</i>-SCH<sub>2</sub>CH(CH<sub>3</sub>)S}] (<b>4</b>) in 75% and 91% yields, respectively. The new complexes <b>3</b> and <b>4</b> have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR, <sup>1</sup>H NMR, <sup>31</sup>P{<sup>1</sup>H} NMR, and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Additionally, the electrochemistry of complexes <b>3</b> and <b>4</b> has been studied by cyclic voltammetry. Interestingly, the fungicidal activity has been studied.
