Lorenz Energy Cycle (LEC) Results for Cyclones in the Southwestern Atlantic: Energy Characteristics and Life Cycle Phases

This dataset contains the Lorenz Energy Cycle (LEC) results for cyclones tracked in the Southwestern Atlantic Ocean from 1979 to 2020. The data was obtained using the ERA5 reanalysis and processed using the CycloPhaser program to identify and categorize cyclone life cycles into distinct phases (e.g., incipient, intensification, mature, decay). The LEC was computed for each cyclone to analyze the energy dynamics throughout its life cycle. The dataset includes: LEC results: Energy characteristics integrated over the cyclone life cycle (file: 20210007_ERA5_track_results.csv). Energy levels: Separate CSV files for each energy term (e.g., Az_level.csv, Ce_level.csv) calculated for each cyclone phase. Cyclone periods: Time periods corresponding to each cyclone's life cycle phases (file: periods.csv). Tracking data: Cyclone tracks and related metadata. The data provides valuable insights into the energy transformations and dynamical mechanisms involved in cyclone development, intensification, and decay in the South Atlantic. It is intended for use in atmospheric dynamics studies, climatology, and future cyclone forecasting.
