The differential absorption method developed in "A general formalism to include inelastic scatterings in the differential absorption method for hard x-ray spectroscopy" takes into account not only the usual absorption phenomenon of colliding photons on metallic samples, but also the effects of the secondary radiation that may be generated due to the interaction.
As it is detailed in the paper, the formulation includes a function (f) quantifying the change in energy that the outgoing photons have with respect to that of the incoming ones due to inelastic scattering within the plates. To provide a set of f-functions for potential users of this method, Monte Carlo calculations are available as Mendeley Data. The simulations of f were made considering incoming photons with energies ranging from 20 to 600 keV, and metallic plates of different densities and thicknesses. The Matlab/Octave script graph_f.m is available to manage the information. It plots the required f function by specifying the energy of the impinging photon and selecting the properties of the target from a list of available materials and thicknesses.
The formulation also includes the evaluation of Ψ, the signal registered by the detector due to a photon-plate interaction. This function depends on the energy of the colliding photon; the plate’s characteristics and the considered detector. Datasets (and figures) of Ψ-functions used for the HXR spectral measurement presented in the manuscript as application to real data, are also available as Mendeley Data.
