Microplastics, perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and organophosphate esters (OPE) pathways to Canadian Arctic lakes in Yukon and Nunavut via snow deposition

This project will investigate the contamination of microplastics, perfluorinated substances (PFASs) and organophosphate esters (OPEs) in the snow of sub-Arctic and Arctic to improve the understanding of the transport and pathways of these contaminants to the Arctic via atmospheric wet deposition. The objective of this project aims to fulfill the following priorities stated in the 2020-2021 blueprint for the Environmental Monitoring and Research subprogram of the Northern Contaminants Program (NCP):(1) Section 1.4: Identifying plastic and microplastic concentrations in abiotic compartments; Understanding the movement of microplastics to and within the North.(2) Section 7.4.1: Identification and quantification of the transport and deposition of plastics and persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in the Arctic are top priorities for atmospheric monitoring
