HISOMAV – an Historical ISOtope database of Mediterranean mArine Vertebrates

HISOMAV is a curated database of stable carbon (δ¹³C), nitrogen (δ¹⁵N), and sulphur (δ³⁴S) isotope values from historical specimens of large marine vertebrates. The dataset integrates newly generated measurements with data compiled from the literature, spanning a wide temporal range from the 19th century to the present, and encompassing multiple taxa.
HISOMAV provides a standardized framework to examine trophic interactions, ecological niche dynamics, and spatio-temporal patterns in marine apex predators. By enabling robust reconstructions of past ecosystem states, this resource contributes to improving our understanding of historical baselines in the Mediterranean Sea.
