Gene database of Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 12228

A part of the normal skin microbiota, Staphylococcus
epidermidis has raised increasing concern amongst the medical community as
opportunistic pathogens particularly in those with compromised immune system.
Facultative anaerobic and Gram-positive in nature, the bacterium forms biofilm
that is hard to eradicate, especially from surfaces of catheter. This work
provides a gene database of S. epidermidis ATCC 12228 by parsing the
Genbank genome file of the species. Comprising gene name, gene function
descriptor, and gene sequence of every gene in the annotated genome file of the
bacterium, this resource should find use in studies seeking to understand the
pathogenetic mechanism of the species through loss-of-function analysis or
mutagenesis.
