资源简介:
This collection comprises images, site records and a spreadsheet from an archaeological trial trench evaluation at Beggars Lane, Honiton, Devon. Work was carried out by AC Archaeology Ltd in June 2024. The evaluation comprised the machine excavation of six trenches totalling 98m in length with each 1.65m wide. These were positioned to provide sample coverage of the proposed development area. The site is a single pasture field and the main archaeological interest stems from its location adjacent to the probable line or lines of a Roman road from Dorchester to Exeter. The features exposed comprised three ditches which relate to the medieval and later agricultural history of the site. The finds comprised a single worked flint, small quantities of prehistoric/Roman, medieval and post-medieval pottery, shards of post-medieval to modern glass, a piece of stem from a clay tobacco pipe and fragments of ceramic pipe and roof tile all of post-medieval to modern date. All the finds, apart from one sherd of medieval pottery which came from a ditch, were collected from overlying layers and likely derive from manuring the field for agricultural purposes.
