Some compounds possess an electronic singlet ground state which is non-magnetic. Hyperfine coupling between the nuclear and electronic degrees of freedom can serve to mix a small contribution of an electronic excited state into the ground state, thereby entangling those electronic and nuclear degrees of freedom and resulting in an enhanced nuclear moment. We have evidence that this surprising and counterintuitive effect occurs in the pyrochlore Tm2Ti2O7 and this proposal involves using radiofrequency (RF) excitation to probe this hyperfine-enhanced moment using techniques developed for RF-muSR studies on muon-fluorine coupled systems.
