Arsenic contamination in groundwater of the Bengal delta plain covering large part of West Bengal and Bangladesh, possesses a severe threat to drinking water resources. More than 100 million people in the world are under the threat. Although As is toxic to many living organisms, some bacteria can live in high As contaminated groundwater environment and play a major role in As biogeochemical cycle. Rhodococcus sp. CAS922i was isolated from highly As contaminated groundwater of West Bengal, India. This strain has both arsenic mobilization and hydrocarbon degradation ability. So whole genome sequencing of the strain gives better insight the mechanism of arsenic release and utilization of hydrocarbons.
