Porphyran from discolored nori prevents metabolic syndrome through microbiota-bile acid-ceramide pathway

To investigate nori (seaweed) effects on metabolic syndrome, we conducted microarray analysis. Male C57BL/6J mice of 5 weeks of age were fed with a control diet (10% kcal fat; n = 7), a high fat diet (60% kcal fat; n = 7), or a high fat supplemented with 2% w/w porphyran (n = 7) or with 2% w/w nori extract (n = 7) for 13 weeks. Tissues from the 7 mice in a group were pooled.
