资源简介:
Xenopus laevis is one of the prime animal models in cellular and developmental biologybut it is also an excellent model to study the evolutionary consequences ofpolyploidization. In this manuscript we use whole-genome resequencing to reconstructthe population structure and demography of X. laevis in South Africa and to test if thetwo sub-genomes X. laevis inherited from its ancestors are differentially subject tomutation, migration, drift and selection in modern populations. Specifically, we aim todetermine if the S sub-genome is harbouring signs of reduced selective pressurecompared to the L sub-genome (as previously suggested by interspecific comparisons).Contrary to expectations, we determined that the landscapes of variation of the L and Ssub-genomes do not show any significant differences suggesting that the two sub-genomes are responding to evolutionary forces in a similar manner.
