VPRS 14555 Correspondence Files, Alphabetical Series, Secretary of the Committee of Management

This series consists of correspondence sent to the Secretary of the Committee of Management of the Wilsons promontory National Park, Mr James Kershaw. Correspondents included officers of governement departments such as the department of Crown Lands and Survey, the Department of Agriculture and the Victorian Railways, officials of such organisations as the Bulba Trust (to do with the preservation of fauna), the Field Naturalists, the zoo and local Progress Associations such as that at Foster, private individuals, reports from the park ranger and from the Treasurer of the Committee of Management.Subjects covered are to do with the management and promotion of the National Park and the provision of access to it, arrangements for a Vice-Regal visit, supervision of the park ranger, and correspondence relating to the financial affairs of the Committee of Management.Included (in the X folder) is a set of letters and papers referring to the proposed reservation of Wilsons Promontory from 1904. These consist of letters of support from individuals, organisations and municipal councils sent to professor Baldwin Spencer (Melbourne University) at that time the Hon. Secretary of the National Park Committee of Victoria. Included are the notes, arrangements and correspondence relating to a public meeting held at the Melbourne Town Hall in support of the reservation of Wilsons Promontory.
