Genomic epidemiology of Campylobacter spp. isolated from chickens in Brazil

Campylobacter is the most frequent etiologic bacterial agent of foodborne gastroenteritis in the world. Brazil is a major exporter of chicken for human consumption, yet population-level genomic investigations of Campylobacter spp. in the country remain limited. The aim of this study was to analyze the diversity of the C. jejuni and C. coli population isolated from chicken in Brazil between 2017 and 2018. We generated high quality draft genome sequences of 105 C. jejuni and 32 C. coli isolates from chicken carcasses. Our findings showed a diverse population of Campylobacter spp. with high virulence and resistance.
