This correspondence relates to such matters as: prosecutions for perjury; proposals to prosecute newspapers for sedition and contempt; relations with the Commonwealth and international governments; the official crests of the New South Wales Government; the operation of industrial legislation; the appointment of sittings of the Supreme Court at circuit towns; advice to the Government on legal questions; and, Royal Commissions, including assistance given to the Commonwealth Royal Commission into Espionage 1954, dealing with the Petrov affair. Crown Solicitor's and Assistant Law Officers' advisings; correspondence with the Parliamentary Draftsman concerning legislation, and with Chief Justices, Puisne Judges, the Clerk of the Peace, and Crown Prosecutors can be found among these records. Included with the correspondence for the years 1918-20 are a number of files relating to inquests. These inquests were passed on to the Attorney General because the Coroner had brought down an open verdict or a reward was offered to bring forward more information. Inquest files for 1918 are numbered separately but then placed in one, unnumbered, file; those for 1919 and 1920 are located in the numerical sequence. 1911-20 (7/5528-62, 7/6492-96), 1920-56 (13/10433-68). 76 boxes.
