Microbial population dynamics and trophic interactions in the Skidaway River Estuary (GA, USA)

Our understanding on the temporal dynamics of marine microbes is limited, especially in productive and coastal regions. Using 16S rRNA amplicon metabarcoding, we assessed temporal patterns of bacteria and archaea populations in the Skidaway River Estuary. Though microbial populations were stable over the year, temperature-based shifts in biodiversity and trophic interactions were observed, with potential implications for carbon transfer in coastal food webs.
