The nearly complete mitochondrial genome of Hamaxiella brunnescens (Mesnil, 1967) was sequenced and analyzed here for the first time. The genome is 14,956 bp long with high A+T content, and consists of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes, and a noncoding control region. The phylogenetic analyses supports monophyletic Tachinidae, as well as the monophyly of Exoristinae, Phasiinae and Tachininae. The Exoristinae and Phasiinae are reconstructed as sister groups, which cluster together with Tachininae, making Dexiinae a basal split of tachinids.
