The Water and Microplankton Sampler (WaMS) is an automated platform that takes discrete 100-150ml water samples across five stations in the English Channel from Plymouth (UK) to Roscoff (France) from February 2011-February 2012. Samples were collected, and DNA extracted by phenol-chloroform methods. The V4 region of 18S was amplified and sequences analysed by 454-GS-FLX methods.
