Aurora Australis Voyage 1 (WASTE) 1996-97 Underway Data

This dataset contains the underway data from Voyage 1 1996-97 (WASTE) of the Aurora Australis. This was a manned marine science cruise. CTD data were also obtained from Hobart to the ice edge along the WOCE SR3 line. Oceanographic data from this voyage are held by the Principal Investigator Dr. Steve Rintoul at CSIRO. A number of reports, images and calibration files are also available for download from the provided URL.The voyage leader's report describes the following primary and secondary scientific objectives of the voyage:1) Undertake a hydrographic survey of WOCE section SR3. This was the 6th and final occupation of this transect, measuring the structure and flow of water between Antarctica and Australia as part of the World Ocean Circulation Experiment.2) Undertake a survey of pelagic fish along section SR3. This was the first detailed survey of finned fish in the region.3) Undertake hydrographic survey over inverted echo sounder moorings 30 miles east of the main SR3 line between 50S and 53S (7 CTD stations).4) Undertake approved iceberg observation program.5) Undertake survey of pelagic plastics using a neuston net to collect floating debris.6) Undertake bathymetric measurements around Macquarie Island (two optional routes provided).7) Undertake survey of carbon dioxide exchange along the cruise track.8) Undertake a phytoplankton survey along section SR3.The cruise was dubbed "WASTE" (WOCE Antarctic Southern Transect Expedition).
