资源简介:
This register contains a summary record of all Crown Lands open to selection after auction in the Land District of Wentworth, kept by the Wentworth Crown Land Agent's Office.Crown Lands that could be sold at public auction included: conditionally purchased lands that had been deemed abandoned; land that has no conditions for residence or improvement; land that has had no improvements made; and land put up for sale at auction previously that did not sell.Crown Land to be auctioned by the Crown had first to be surveyed. By law a Crown Land auction had to be proclaimed by the Governor within three months of the scheduled date of sale, and not less than one month before. The Crown Lands Alienation Act of 1861 (25 Vic. No.1) stated that a deposit of twenty five percent of the purchase price was to be paid at the time of sale, and the balance to be paid within three months, else the contract would be declared void and the deposit forfeited, and the land put up for auction again. The register records information such as: the place where last offered for sale, date of advertisement, when last offered for sale, lot, situation of land, county, parish or place, portion, area, price per acre, total purchased price, deed fee, purchaser's name, residence and calling, date of selection, and any further remarks. In this register, auction lots are identified by letters, 'A', 'B', etc. with letters often being repeated on the same page. Many selections were withdrawn prior to the auction.
