Research Hypothesis and Interpretation of Data
Research Hypothesis:
This study hypothesizes that diode laser treatment is more effective than cryotherapy for the removal of plantar warts in terms of requiring fewer sessions while maintaining similar safety and pain levels.
Data Description:
The data used in this study originate from a single-blind, randomized controlled trial involving 44 participants diagnosed with plantar warts. Participants were randomly assigned to either the diode laser treatment group (n=22) or the cryotherapy group (n=22). Clinical evaluations were conducted at weekly intervals, recording variables such as number of sessions required for complete wart removal, pain levels assessed using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and any adverse events.
Notable Findings:
The diode laser group required significantly fewer treatment sessions (mean: 3.09 ± 0.92) compared to the cryotherapy group (mean: 3.91 ± 0.92; p=0.02).
Both treatments exhibited a similar safety profile, with only one reported case of increased pain in the laser group.
Pain levels decreased progressively over time for both groups, with no statistically significant differences between them.
Data Interpretation:
The results indicate that diode laser treatment provides a more efficient approach to plantar wart removal compared to cryotherapy, potentially reducing treatment duration and patient burden. The statistical analyses, including repeated-measures ANOVA and Mann-Whitney U tests, confirm that while both methods are effective, laser therapy achieves faster resolution. Clinicians may consider diode laser as a viable alternative to cryotherapy, particularly in cases where treatment efficiency is a priority.
