In the disease status models an odds ratio (OR)1 indicates a detrimental effect (increased risk of HAM/TSP). In the proviral load models the dependent variable was log10[proviral load], a difference in VL0 indicates a detrimental effect (increased pvl with the HLA allele). All models also included the two variables which can act as confounding variables in this cohort: age and gender.
