Identifying the Key Drivers of Bitcoin's Emissions

This dataset was used in the article “Identifying the Key Drivers of Bitcoin’s Emissions”. It contains 2,895 daily observations covering the period from January 1, 2014, to December 11, 2021. Variables include miner efficiency, miner revenues, the total number of Bitcoins mined per day, network difficulty, and hashrate. Data were compiled from publicly available open-access sources (Nasdaq Blockchain Data) and processed for use in a Bayesian Vector Autoregression (BVAR) model to examine the key determinants of Bitcoin’s carbon footprint. The dataset is provided in Excel format and can be reused for replication, robustness checks, and comparative analyses on cryptocurrency-related environmental impacts.
