Twice Daily Human Vaginal Sampling for Microbial Community Profiling

This is a prospective study of bacterial vaginosis (BV). Participants were enrolled with normal vaginal microbiota and followed for up to 60 days self collecting vaginal specimens twice daily. Some participants developed BV and had up to 2 weeks prior to BV development sequenced. Others who didn't develop BV were matched as controls to the BV cases for comparison. 16S rRNA sequencing of the V4 hypervariable region was performed to assess the microbial community structure of each specimen.
